“Thai Art Moves Forward Against the Tide of Market Uncertainty”

Art enthusiasts flocked to the auction, driving bids to record heights—led by “Dorasa baela” (1983) by Chakrabhand Posayakrit, which achieved a hammer price of 22.6 million baht, setting a new auction record for the renowned master.

Following closely was “The Thin Line Between Faith and Foolishness” (2015) by leading Thai contemporary artist Natee Utarit, whose works are highly recognized in both international exhibitions and global auctions. Bidding began at 3.8 million baht and concluded at 5.8 million baht, including premium. Another highlight was Tawee Nandakwang’s Lotus(1985, 90 x 72 cm), which reached 4.6 million baht, marking another impressive result.

The auction floor heated up as bidders competed intensely for The Power of the Sun by legendary artist Pratuang Emjaroen, with the price soaring from 800,000 to 2 million baht, reflecting the excitement in the room.

Several remarkable pieces by acclaimed new-generation artists also stood out—such as “Bank of Merit” by Nobbie (Patdanu Temeekul), “Somewhere I Belong” by Niam Mawornkanong, “Stranger to Friend” by Suntur, and a print by Takashi Murakami, “Doraemon: On an Endless Journey on a Time Machine with the Author Fujiko F. Fujio.”

Amid economic volatility, stock market fluctuations, and global geopolitical and trade conflicts, Thai art has proven its resilience—emerging as a sought-after asset among collectors of all generations. Art has become not only a form of investment but also a refined expression of taste, seamlessly integrated into both living spaces and personal collections.

The event attracted a diverse range of bidders—from artists, singers, and business executives to doctors, construction entrepreneurs, and real estate developers—reinforcing the expanding strength of Thailand’s art market.
