“Thai Art Prices Soar Amid Global Economic Downturn – A Landmark Auction by Bangkok Art Auction”

The recent Prime Platinum 2025: Auction and Private Sales Showcase dazzled collectors and art enthusiasts alike, as the Thai art market defies global economic trends and domestic political uncertainty with remarkable resilience. The event served as a powerful testament to the lasting value of classical Thai art.

Highlights included the iconic “Face of the Earth” by Thawan Duchanee, which closed at 11,180,700 THB, reaffirming his legendary status.Equally captivating was Venus by renowned contemporary artist Natee Utarit, which saw intense bidding—starting at 4.5 million THB and closing at 6,309,900 THB. Also featured was “Imaginary Dragon” by Chalermchai Kositpipat, a spiritual fusion of dragon and Naga iconography, which concluded at 3,542,400 THB.

In the same showcase, contemporary artist Pinaree Sanpitak presented “The Egg that Wouldn’t Hatch”, an early mixed-media work rich with symbolism. The piece conveys vulnerability, identity, and feminine spirit through layered visual language—exploring the nuanced role and status of women in society. It closed at 440,990 THB, drawing interest from both Thai and international collectors.

Another standout was “Dew drops” (61 x 61 cm, oil on canvas, 1981) by legendary artist Pratuang Emjaroen. This semi-abstract masterpiece—painted during a period when the artist signed with a sun symbol—depicts dewdrops on leaves with subtle brilliance and delicacy, echoing light and nature’s quiet clarity. It realized 1,044,450 THB, underscoring the timeless appeal of Thai art.

All of this unfolded in an atmosphere of refined exclusivity at Kunawong House Museum, setting a new benchmark for art auctions in Thailand—one where elegance, prestige, and cultural sophistication converge
